Endoscopy Information
Endoscopy is the process of examining the interior of hollow organs and body cavities with an optical instrument. It must ay all times be regarded as a surgical procedure, with all the inherent risks of sugical intervention. It is all too often purveyed as a casual investigation, especially as many forms of Endoscopy are done as out-patient procedures, without ensesthesia.
Endoscopes are either flexible or rigid. Although the newer scopes are flexible, the surgeon may use a rigid Endoscope when the occasion demands it. Endoscopes can either transmit an optical image through fiberoptics or generate an electrical video image that can be observed on a screen.
Endoscopes have controls that permit the surgeon to manipulate and control the tip. Lighting is provided by manipulate and control the tip.
