Episiotomy
Episiotomy Information
Episiotomy is a surgical incision made on the mother's perineum to facilitate vaginal delivery. It is made in the second stage of labour, under local anaesthesia.
Episiotomy incision is stiched up after delivery and generally heals with ease in the first week after delivery.
Episiotomy prevents tears to the vagina and rectum and injury to the muscles of control.
