Kidney Failure - symptom, Treatment of Kidney Failure
The kidney can fail abruptly Acute Renal Failure, (ARF) or slowly decline in function Chronic Renal Failure (CRF).
The outlook is different:
ARF is reversible; CRF leads to End Stage Renal Disease.
Kidney Function, Abnormal:
- Early diagnosis of abnormalities in kidney function allow the diseased kidney to be salvaged.
- Kidney dysfunction can be part of a generalized illness, or a primary kidney disease.
- It is diagnosed on the basis of complaints, signs, laboratory tests.
Abnormal Kidney Function causes:
- a) Disturbances in urine volume (oligo-, poly-, an- uria)
- b) Abnormalities in urine sediment seen on urine test (RBCs, WBCs, crystals, cast)
- c) Abnormal excretion of plasma protein (proteinuria)
- d) Reduction of Glomerular Filtration Rate (azotemia, uremia)
- e) Hypertension/edema
- f) Electrolyte abnormalities
- g) Some conditions cause fever and pain.
