Mesothelioma Information
Tumors of the pleura and peritoneum, usually associated with asbestosis.
They are not associated with smoking. Exposure to asbestos over 1to 2 years has resulted in these tumors after a latency of 30-35 years.
They are first noticed when chest pain/breathlessness lead to a diagnosis of pleural effusion.
Mesothelioma do not spread to distant parts of the 'body, but mortality is high from local complications.
