Discolored patches, spots, lines.
The white patch:
- Painless, rough, white patches seen on tongue, gum or palate are called leukoplakia.This lead to oral cavity cancers which is found mostly in India.
- Leukoplakia is pre-cancerous until proved otherwise by biopsy.
- It is common in smokers and chewers of tobacco.
Symptoms of Mouth Discolouration
Painful white patches:
- Oral candida infection is often the cause.
- Adults should be screened for diabetes and HIV infection.
Black or brown patches:
Caused by melanin deposition
Black or brown spots and patches can be signs of a wide group of illnesses from adrenal problems (Addisons Disease) to polyposis.
Should be consulted with doctor .Discoloration may also follow ingestion of some common drugs.
A bluish black line on the gum is a sign of heavy metals. Report any such sign to your doctor immediately, especiallyif
you have been taking 'herbal' or 'natural' preparations as remedy or 'tonic.'
